These beautiful little airships were a collaboration between my partner and I. We created them for a dear friend who is way into steampunk and was having a BIG steampunk birthday party. We were very excited about the costumes but I think we got more excited about the props.
My beloved is a game developer and designed these as 3D models and turned them into pepakura designs.
That's when the cutting and gluing began. Lots of cutting and gluing.
Once they were pieced together I added a layer of paper mache and then painted them. I'm so pleased with how they turned out! (So was our friend by the way. She was pretty thrilled).
And the best bit.
My mad scientist partner then decided to photograph the paint and mache textures and digitally added them back onto the 3D models. So these very airships are back and digitally flying around a steampunk skyline! He's written all about it on his blog too
We are loving the pepakura approach right now and we're keen to experiment more with the digital application so I'm quite sure there will be a lot more projects.
